Dumfries police hail double drugs seizure

Police say they have seized a "sizeable" quantity of drugs from two addresses in Dumfries.

The first incident saw heroin with a street value of £38,000 recovered from a house in Cairn Avenue on Monday.

In the second search on Tuesday, cannabis worth more than £12,000 was found in a property in Queen Street.

Police said a 27-year-old woman had appeared in court after the first find and two men were being reported over the second.

Insp Stuart Wilson said police would "work tirelessly in the battle against illegal drugs".

'Filthy trade'

"We cannot do this alone, however, and we rely heavily on a good working partnership with our communities," he added.

He said it was only through information from the public that they could tackle the "filthy trade".

Det Sgt Hugh McCombe said intelligence from parents, neighbours and members of the public was "invaluable".

He said it gave them the opportunity to "target and take illegal drugs off the street".
