Galashiels woman, 75, loses thousands in computer scam
An elderly woman in the Scottish Borders has had thousands of pounds stolen from her in a computer scam.
Police have urged people to be vigilant after the 75-year-old from Galashiels was targeted by fraudsters.
She was called on 2 December by a man asking to be paid for work he claimed was carried out on her computer.
He persuaded her to allow him to access her computer remotely and removed "several thousand pounds" from her bank account.
Insp John Scott, of Police Scotland, said officers were conducting inquiries to identify the caller.
He added: "This is a callous and devious crime targeting people who might be less confident with computers.
"We would urge everyone to be on their guard and should you receive a call of this nature, terminate the call and do not allow the caller any access to your computer or personal information
"Never give anyone your password details. The matter should then be reported to the police."
