Police are searching for a man who left the scene of a crash on the A74 (M) in Dumfriesshire in which a woman died.

Faranza Kousar was travelling with a unidentified man in a silver Toyota Avensis car when it collided with a white Mercedes van a mile north of junction 20 at Eaglesfield on Monday.

The 39-year-old, from Glasgow, was killed, but the man left the scene of the crash shortly after it happened.

It is thought he hitched a lift with a lorry at Johnstonebridge services.

The man is described as being about 30 years old, of Asian appearance, about 6ft tall, with dark hair and long sideburns.

He was wearing a black quilted jacket over a dark jumper bearing the letters FC, dark trousers and may have been wearing a wedding ring.

The man may have a head injury, and was last seen at the petrol pumps and then the main building at the services between 06:00 and 06:30 on Monday.
