Police appeal after exhaust stolen in West Linton

An entire exhaust system was stolen from a van in West Linton during a series of metal thefts in the town.

Thieves cut the clamp on the turbo system to remove the exhaust, which was worth £3,000, from the orange Mercedes Sprinter.

It was taken from the van, which was parked at St Mungos Lea, on Thursday night or Friday morning.

Police believe it may be linked to the theft of an aluminium trailer from Deanfoot Drive in the same town.

The trailer measures about 6ft by 4ft (1.8m x 1.2m) and has three metal straps.

It is usually used to transport the owner's quad bike and there are distinctive tyre marks on the trailer floor.

The trailer, which is worth about £300, was stolen overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

PC Vanessa Hamilton said: "To have two metal theft of this nature in the same area is concerning and we are eager to trace any suspects.

"We are also eager to recover both items. Anyone with information about either incident should contact police immediately."
