Hit-and-run driver kills collie dog

A hit-and-run driver has killed a collie dog on a rural road in Dumfries and Galloway.

The accident happened on the B6357 road between Hollee and Irvington at about 10:15 on Wednesday.

A farmer was moving cows in the area when the eight-year-old working dog was struck and killed.

The vehicle is described as a black Mitsubishi pick-up with part of the registration number being SB10. The driver stopped briefly but drove off.

PC Emma-Jayne Neylon said: "This was a horrific incident for the farmer to witness made worse by the driver failing to stop after the crash.

"The driver of the pick-up is described as being male, in his late 20s, white, medium build with a bit of a belly, about 6ft tall with short brown hair and a beard.

"We ask that anyone who can help us trace the driver of this vehicle get in touch through 101, and indeed would ask that the driver of the vehicle himself get in touch with us regarding the incident."
