Pensioner faces Melrose attempted murder charge

A pensioner has been accused of the attempted murder of an elderly woman at a sheltered housing complex in Melrose.

David Thomson, 69, is charged with committing the offence at Priorwood Court in High Road, where he lives, on Sunday.

He made no plea during a private hearing at Selkirk Sheriff Court and the case was continued for further examination.

He was refused bail by Sheriff Derrick McIntyre and remanded in custody.
