A man has been arrested after a woman had her throat slashed in her Stirlingshire home.

The victim, who has been named locally as Lisa Whyte, was attacked at about 0930 BST in the village of Slamannan.

It is believed Miss Whyte is the mother of two young children and had been due to get married on Friday.

Police said 37-year-old Steven McKee had been arrested in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in connection with the attack.

It is understood he is receiving medical treatment before being brought back to Scotland, where he is expected to appear at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Monday.

Neighbours told BBC Scotland there had been rows between Miss Whyte and her fiance ahead of their planned wedding on Friday, and the ceremony did not go ahead.

She was flown to the Southern General hospital in Glasgow after being attacked. Her condition is understood to be "serious".

A Central Scotland police spokesman said: "Inquiries are currently being carried out following an incident this morning at an address in Slamannan.

"A 32-year-old woman suffered serious injuries during the incident and was airlifted to hospital. Inquiries are ongoing."
