A body found in a field in Larbert is believed to be a 44-year-old woman from the Falkirk area, it has emerged.
Central Scotland Police said formal identification and a post-mortem examination would be carried out on Friday.
The force said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A spokesman said inquiries were ongoing to establish the woman's movements before the discovery of the body.
Two members of the public discovered the body at about 1350 BST on Wednesday.
The field where the remains were found is about a mile (1.6km) from Larbert Cross, next to the B905.
