Buchlyvie police seize £50,000 of heroin from car

Police officers have discovered heroin with a street value of £50,000 after stopping a car near Stirling during a routine check.

The drugs were seized from a car on the A811 at Buchlyvie at about 1700 BST on Friday.

Central Scotland Police said they had found about half a kilo of heroin in the vehicle.

Two men, aged 44 and 36, have been arrested in connection with the discovery.

Inspector Catriona Paton said the vehicle checks were part of a "determined effort" to catch travelling criminals.

"We carry out routine checks on vehicles as part of our regular policing and we will continue to do them. It is not a one-off operation and there are no second chances for anybody caught breaking the law," she said.

"Those thinking of transporting drugs on our road network should be aware that my officers will stop and check their vehicles and they will be caught."
