A pregnant woman has escaped a serious crash on the A9 which left her car burnt out, police have said.

The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution, but was uninjured in the three-vehicle collision near Dalguise in Perthshire.

A 27-year-old man was also taken Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with pelvic and chest injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle involved was uninjured in the crash, which happened at about 08:00.

Tayside Fire and Rescue were called after the Mercedes C180 being driven by the pregnant woman caught fire.

Police officers said the car had been "almost completely destroyed".

The injuries suffered by the man, who was driving a white Vauxhall Combo van, are not thought to be life-threatening. The third car involved in the collision was a red Vauxhall Astra.

The road was closed after the crash while emergency services worked at the scene.

Tayside Police has appealed to witnesses to contact them. The force said the collision was not thought to be linked to the weather.
