Police investigating the death of a 56-year-old man in Dundee after he was attacked in the street have arrested a man and are questioning another.

Alexander McLennan, from Dundee, died in hospital following an incident on Kingsway East at 14:45 on Saturday.

Tayside Police said a 29-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death and a 31-year-old man was being questioned.

Murder inquiry detectives are still seeking a third man.

The incident took place between the Cutty Sark public house and the junction with Westhall Court.

Officers were called after reports of a disturbance involving four men on the verge of the eastbound carriageway.

'Prolonged disturbance'

Det Insp Kevin McMahon, who is leading the inquiry, said officers were still keen to trace a third man and wanted the public's help.

He added: ''We are certain that there are people in the local community who know who is responsible for this incident. They need to come forward and share what they know with us.''

He said the road was "extremely busy" during the time of the "prolonged disturbance".

Witnesses have reported queues of vehicles slowing to watch the incident, with a number of cars even sounding their horns.

Det Insp McMahon said: "We need to speak to these people. If they watched as this incident unfolded, where are they now? If they haven't spoken to us already, why not?

"They shouldn't dismiss what they have seen, or assume that someone else will speak to the police."

Officers are also carrying out door-to-door inquires in the area and reviewing CCTV.
