Perth supermarket plan announced
A property company has announced plans to build a new supermarket and petrol station on the outskirts of Perth.
The proposed 55,000 sq ft site would be next to the McDiarmid Park stadium, the home ground of St Johnstone FC.
Manse LLP said the development could create up to 400 full and part time jobs and "meet demand" for a new supermarket in the area.
Public reaction to the plans is being sought before planning permission is lodged with Perth and Kinross Council.
There is already a Tesco Extra directly opposite the stadium.
The company said it hoped to apply for permission in May 2012, with the hope that work would start in the autumn if approved. The proposal includes road improvements to the nearby A85 and A9.
David Mitchell, managing partner at Manse LLP, said: "We are delighted to be announcing these supermarket and new road infrastructure proposals, delivering investment and jobs, as well as addressing recognised retail demand.
"The great advantage of this site is its deliverability and being within an established commercial centre and adjacent to the existing population of Perth allows for greater sustainable travel opportunities meaning less reliance on car travel.
"We look forward to engaging with the local community over the next few weeks and hearing their views on this."
