Detectives investigating the murder of Perthshire pensioner Jenny Methven have detained a man in connection with her death.

The 80-year-old's body was found by her son David at the home they shared near Forteviot on 20 February.

Tayside Police said a 46-year-old from the Perthshire area was currently assisting with their enquiries.

Officers also appealed for help in identifying three three vehicles seen in the area on the day of the killing.

All of them were seen by witnesses on a stretch of road from Forteviot to Forgandenny - known locally as the "bad bends" - between 09:30 and 10:15 on the day of the murder.

The vehicles are:

  • A burgundy Transit van seen on the road at about 10:10
  • A silver hatchback car seen waiting to pass a van. The car was driven by a blonde-haired woman and there was an empty child seat in the back
  • A white panel van with a blue stripe along its sides, which was seen with its hazard lights on.

Detectives have appealed to anyone who saw the vehicles, or recognises them, to contact the police.
