Police warning after children are seen crossing M9 motorway
Central Scotland Police have warned about the dangers of playing or walking on motorways after two children were seen crossing the M9 on Saturday night.
The youngsters were spotted crossing the motorway between junction six at Earlsgate and junction seven at Hill of Kinnaird.
Police said there had been several other incidents reported of children playing or walking on the motorway.
Insp David McKenzie said: "This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous.
"Motorways are not a place for children to play or to cross.
"Traffic on motorways travel much faster than on roads and motorists do not expect to see anybody there."
The road policing officer added: "This particular incident happened after 23.00 on Saturday when it was dark. This obviously makes it even more dangerous.
"It is just fortunate that nobody has been seriously injured or killed by taking such a needless risk."
