Police hunt for pregnant speeder after warrant issued

Police are hunting for a woman who was caught driving at more than 100mph whilst pregnant, after she failed to turn up at court.

Ellen MacInnes previously admitted driving dangerously on the A9 in the rain, hitting speeds of up to 107 mph.

A warrant was issued for her arrest, after the 22-year-old failed to turn up at Perth Sheriff Court for sentencing without giving an explanation.

MacInnes, from Inverness, was banned from driving on an interim basis.

Solicitor David Holmes told the court that his client had pleaded guilty by letter in April and had been informed by telephone subsequently that she had been banned from driving on an interim basis.

He said she had been 35 weeks pregnant at that stage. Mr Holmes added that he had had no explanation as to why she had not turned up to court.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said MacInnes had been given "the opportunity to appear under her own steam" and issued a warrant for her arrest.
