James Getty death: Man to stand trial on murder charge

A man is to stand trial next year charged with the murder of a man outside a pub in Dundee.

Jamie Cumming, a father of 16 children, appeared for a preliminary hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 36-year-old is accused of killing James Getty outside the Maltman pub, at the junction of Mains Road and Mid Road, on 1 June this year.

Judge Lord Bracadale set a trial date for February next year at the High Court in Dundee.

Mr Cumming is alleged to have struck Mr Getty repeatedly with a knife or similar instrument.

He also faces a separate charge that he assaulted the 29-year-old at the Maltman pub by punching him on the head to his injury.
