Police are investigating after two cars were set alight in the centre of Stirling.

Police received a report of vehicles on fire at Cowane Street Lane at 22:10 on Thursday.

A man, described as being 5ft 8in tall, wearing a white t-shirt and a black hooded top, was seen running away towards Bayne Street.

No-one was injured, but heat from the fires smashed windows at nearby flats.

Sgt William Hogg from the Forth Valley community investigation unit appealed for witnesses.

He said: "Thankfully no-one was hurt but this appears to have been a deliberate act of fire-raising and we are obviously very keen to trace those responsible as soon as possible.

"There does not appear at this stage to be any obvious motive for the crime but inquiries are under way to establish the full circumstances of how the fires started."
