A cyclist has been seriously injured in a hit and run collision near a village in Stirlingshire.

The 47-year-old man was cycling on the B822 Kippen to Fintry road just west of Kippen at about 13:45 on Saturday when he was struck by a van.

The van, which is thought to have been white, failed to stop.

The cyclist was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.

Sgt Andrew Thomson said: "I am keen to hear from anyone who was using the B822 between Kippen and the village of Fintry around the time of the collision.

"The cyclist suffered some painful injuries and the driver of the other vehicle did not stop.

"Anyone who can help us trace this individual or who has information that can assist with our ongoing enquiries is asked to come forward."
