Man threatened hostel residents with dustpan

A man who threatened residents at a homeless hostel with a dustpan has been jailed for eight months.

Ryan Murphy, 23, picked up the housekeeping item after being punched in the face by another resident at the hostel in Stirling.

Murphy, of Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner.

His solicitor said Murphy was "picked on" by other residents because he was from outwith the area.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson told Murphy: "You are building up a short but significant record for violence."
