A report that a microlight may have crashed into woodland was a "well-intentioned false alarm", police have confirmed.

A search operation which was launched on Sunday close to the M80 motorway at Cambusbarron near Stirling has now been called off.

Police, mountain rescue teams, firefighters, ambulance personnel and other volunteers had joined the search.

Two members of the public had reported seeing an aircraft descend.

Insp Anton Stephenson said: "We have carried out a number of inquiries and are satisfied that the report was made with good intent."
