Man, 88, dies after road incident at Gelli, Rhondda

An 88-year-old man has died following a late night collision with a car at Gelli in Rhondda Cynon Taf, say police.

The incident, involving a black Suzuki Swift, happened near the Hibernia club on the B4223 Gelli Road at 2205 BST on Friday.

The man, who lived locally, was pronounced dead at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital near Llantrisant.

Meanwhile, two people were taken to hospital after a road crash in nearby Llwynypia on Saturday.

They were freed from a vehicle in Patridge Road at around 1000 BST and police said their injuries were not serious.

After the crash at Gelli, the carriageway was closed for about four hours while initial police investigations were carried out and the vehivle was recovered.

South Wales Police are asking anyone who saw the collision or who stopped to provide assistance to contact them.

Anyone who saw the vehicle being driven beforehand is also asked to come forward.
