Woman dies after hit by train at rail crossing in Powys

An investigation is under way into the death of a woman who was struck by a train at a rural crossing in Powys.

The incident happened at Derwenlas, near Machynlleth, at 2320 GMT Friday.

British Transport Police (BTP) said they were investigating the the 63-year-old woman's death which is currently being treated as unexplained.

Police, paramedics and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service personnel attended the scene. The woman has not yet been identified.

A BTP spokesperson said: "BTP officers were advised by Network Rail of an incident on the line at an occupational crossing in the Derwenlas area, near Machynlleth, on 10 December after a report that a person had been struck and killed by a train.

"Officers from BTP and Dyfed Powys Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 11:20pm and is currently being treated as unexplained."

The train involved was the 2212 GMT from Barmouth to Machynlleth.
