Welsh rugby fan fined for assaulting England supporter

A Wales rugby fan has been fined for a racially aggravated assault on an England supporter after watching an international match in a pub.

England had beaten Wales 30-17 in the game, which was televised at the Crown Bard in Rhyl, Denbighshire.

Ex-Rhyl outside half Erik Lloyd, 48, assaulted Graham Whitehouse, 54, of Prestatyn outside the pub in February.

Lloyd, who had been found guilty, was fined £300, and ordered to pay £300 to his victim.

Mr Whitehouse had been punched and had his glasses knocked off.

Magistrate Penny Rogers said what had occurred was fuelled by the passions of the day.

She added that if the offence hadn't been racially aggravated the fine would have been £100 less.

After the case, Lloyd insisted he was innocent and said his own mother is English and he had never done anything racial in his life
