Police are treating a fire at a house in Powys as suspicious after a woman and two children were rescued.

The fire broke out in the hallway of the end-of-terrace house in Highway Court, Brookland Road, Llandrindod Wells, just after 0500 GMT.

The woman, two children and two cats were rescued by firefighters but escaped injury.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they were treating the blaze as suspicious and were appealing for witnesses.

Police said they were helping the fire service investigate the cause, which led to "substantial damage" to the front door of the property.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the people rescued were assessed at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for witnesses to call Llandrindod Wells CID on 101. Alternatively, people can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
