'Despicable' burglar targets Cardiff pensioner, 90

Police have condemned a distraction burglary at the home of a 90-year-old woman as "despicable".

A man called around to the house in Canton, Cardiff, on Friday afternoon claiming to be a plumber working at a neighbour's house.

He got into the house and stole money and a cheque book.

South Wales Police said the suspect was 5ft 8ins and had a local accent. He was wearing dark trousers and a beige fleece.

The incident happened at 1415 GMT in Alexandra Road in Canton.

Det Sgt Stuart Adams said: "This is a despicable crime against an elderly person who trusted this caller. The victim is being supported by officers.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw anyone fitting the description or has any information to contact us."

Police also want to hear from anyone who has been approached in a similar fashion.
