Fire rescues in Cardiff, Newport and Penywaun

Fire crews have been called to a series of house fires at the start of the Easter weekend in south Wales.

Nine people were rescued from a property in Grangetown, Cardiff.

Some were treated at the scene with oxygen after the fire in the first floor of the property in Corporation Road at 0230 BST.

Two people were also treated for smoke inhalation after a flat fire in Penywaun, Cynon Valley and a house fire in Mellon Street, Newport.

In the Cynon Valley fire, the person was led to safety and treated at the scene by an ambulance crew after the incident in Waun Llwyd at 0030 BST.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the house fire in Newport, near the city centre, broke out just after 2230 BST on Thursday.

One person was rescued and the blaze was brought under control by three crews and a hydraulic platform.
