Tribute to teacher Philippa Evans killed in A465 crash

The family of a teacher who died in a collision on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road at Gurnos have described her as a "deeply spiritual and intellectual fun-loving girl".

Philippa Evans, 26, had just completed a term at Arden High School in Solihull, West Midlands.

She was visiting her parents and two brothers who live in the Merthyr Tydfil area.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at 16:55 BST on Monday.

"Philippa...conducted herself with integrity in all life's opportunities and endeavours," said her family in a statement issued through police.

"She took great pleasure in educating young people's minds and will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her and by the students and colleagues at Arden High School in Solihull."

The road was closed for four hours after the collision between Ms Evans' silver Mitsubishi Colt and a black Mercedes E220.

The driver and a passenger in the Mercedes were taken to hospital with multiple injuries and shock.

South Wales Police said they were not in a serious condition.

Officers from South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses.
