Two people escaped after a blaze at a pub and restaurant in Flintshire early on Sunday.

An investigation will start later to establish the cause of the fire at the Bells of St Mary's in Mostyn Road in Gronant.

Six fire crews took two hours to bring the fire under control after the alert at 01:30 BST.

North Wales Fire and Rescue said two people inside were alerted by a fire alarm and made their way to safety.

Firefighters from the Prestatyn, Rhyl, Holywell, Flint, Abergele and Colwyn Bay were called out.

The bar and restaurant area was heavily smoke logged by the fire, which was not believed to be suspicious.

The pub is situated on the A548 and the road was closed during the emergency.
