Barry family escape fire attack on home

A family was forced to escape through an upstairs window after a lighted object was posted through a letterbox at their home in the Vale of Glamorgan.

A small fire was started at the house in Holmes Street, Barry, where the family were sleeping, at 06:05 BST on Monday.

They escaped uninjured but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police said the suspicious fire could have had serious consequences.

Det Insp Jason Redrup, from Barry CID, said: "This was a particularly unusual incident that could have had very serious consequences.

"Fortunately, the family escaped without injury.

"Our investigations are ongoing at this time and we are doing all we can to find those responsible."

He added that they were appealing for people who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Holmes Street, Vere Street and Quarella Street on Monday morning, or have any information regarding the incident, to get in touch.

South Wales Police said anyone with information is asked to call Barry CID on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
