Andrew Sheldon jailed for sex with girl, 14

A man has been jailed for three and a half years for having sex with an under age girl 30 years his junior.

Mechanic Andrew Sheldon from Connah's Quay, Flintshire, was 44 when he first had sex with a girl aged 14 in an ambulance station in Knighton, Powys.

They also had sex in his works van parked in country lanes.

Judge Niclas Parry, sitting at Mold Crown Court, told Sheldon it was a serious offence and "you knew that what you were doing was dreadfully wrong".

Sheldon was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

He was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) preventing him being alone with young girls in a house or in a vehicle.

The defendant originally faced seven charges of sexual touching.

In January he denied all charges against him and a trial date was set for July.

At that stage the court was told that Sheldon did not accept that there had been any sexual contact with the girl.

But he returned to court in February and admitted six charges of sexual activity with a child - three of which involved intercourse - and one charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
