Cardiff police in witness plea after murder in Roath

The detective leading a Cardiff murder investigation is calling on the public to help identify a man seen in the area at the time of the incident.

A man died in Claude Road in Roath early on Saturday. Police want to speak to a man seen running along nearby Oakfield Street around the same time.

Det Supt Stuart McKenzie said a dedicated team of officers is working "around the clock" on the inquiry.

South Wales Police have appealed for witnesses to call 02920 571530.

Supt McKenzie said: "I would urge members of the public to come forward and help us with any information they have regarding this incident."

Police want to trace a man in Oakfield Street at the time of an incident at nearby Claude Road at 02:45 BST.

He was wearing a light-coloured hooded top and trainers.

Detectives want to hear from the man, who was white, or anyone who may have seen him.

He was running in the direction of the A4161 Newport Road.

The dead man has not been formally identified.

Local residents describe the street as usually quiet with a mix of students and families.
