Viridis Plastics UK Ltd buys Plastic Sorting Ltd in Pontllanfraith

A buyer has been found for a recycling company which went into administration in February with the loss of 30 jobs.

Administrators said Plastic Sorting Ltd in Pontllanfraith, Caerphilly county, had been sold for an undisclosed sum to Irish firm Viridis Plastics UK Ltd.

Plastic Sorting specialised in recycling plastic bottles and had a turnover of around £1.2m.

Production is expected to resume at its old factory on Blackwood Business Park in Pontllanfraith.

Plastic Sorting recycled bottles that were sold to the plastics industry.

It was understood to have had the UK's largest capacity polyethylene terephthalate reprocessing plant.

David Hill, partner at administrators Begbies Traynor, said production was expected to continue at the Pontllanfraith factory.

Mr Hill said: "We are pleased to have achieved a sale which will hopefully maintain the operations of an important recycling facility.

"We had a lot of interest in acquiring the assets and wish Viridis the very best in seeking to offer the plant a new future."
