Rail passengers travelling from north to south Wales and the Midlands are facing disruption for a week because of maintenance work.

From Saturday 24 August until Sunday 1 September, Network Rail is carrying out work to Cefn Mawr viaduct.

Buses will run from Shrewsbury to Wrexham while trains will be diverted via Chester and Crewe.

Passengers are asked to check the Arriva Trains Wales website for details of times and other affected services.

Lynne Milligan, customer services director at Arriva Trains Wales, said: "We are asking customers to check their journey details in advance and to allow extra time for their journeys.

"We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may result from these unavoidable changes.

"The improvement works form part of a larger scheme in the area which will lead to shorter journey times between north and south Wales in the future."

She said the changes would also disrupt other services in Cardiff, Holyhead and Llandudno.
