Wrong way M4 car linked to crashes in Bridgend

A car driving the wrong way down the M4 between Port Talbot and Bridgend triggered a 999 alert and is believed to have been involved in two crashes.

The vehicle stopped near Junction 36 and the male driver was taken to hospital, South Wales Police said.

One vehicle overturned in one of the collisions believed to be linked to the incident which started at 06:30 GMT.

The female driver was taken to Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend after the incident near junction 37 (Pyle).

A rolling road block was put in place as police dealt with stopping the car.

Speed signs were set to 20mph in the area between J35 A473 (Pencoed) and J38 A48 (Margam) before being lifted at about 07:00 GMT.

Bristol Rugby coach and BBC Wales' Scrum V pundit Sean Holley said he pulled off the road when a matrix sign warned of an oncoming vehicle.
