Cwmbran death: Son in court charged with dad's murder
A 55-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering his father whose body was found in a house.
Stephen Gallagher is charged with murdering 76-year-old Thomas Gallagher, who was found dead at a property in Cwmbran, Torfaen, on Tuesday morning.
His family has paid tribute to a man that was "absolutely adored."
Mr Gallagher, of Kidwelly Road, Llanyrafon, did not make a plea and was remanded in custody after appearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday.
The late Mr Gallagher - a "much-loved" and loving grandfather - was described as "the glue, the carer, the problem solver" of the family in a statement.
"Thomas was the beat of a big-hearted family," the family said.
"An incredibly hard working, talented, positive, selfless, creative, fit and fun man whose kindnesses were endless. A thoughtful and considerate man, he got great pleasure in helping people and making them happy - he always saw the good in everyone.
"His youthfulness belied his 76 years. He loved us and we were mad about him.
"To know Thomas was around, was to know everything was going to be ok. We were blessed to have him and we are devastated at his death and the manner in which he left us."
His son will next appear in court on 8 November before an expected trial starting on 3 February 2020.
