Teacher hurt in Ystradgynlais school pellet shooting

A 13-year-old boy is being questioned by police after a teacher was shot with a pellet gun at a secondary school in Powys.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the male member of staff at Maesydderwen Comprehensive School in Ystradgynlais suffered a "very minor facial injury".

The force said the boy had been taken into custody following the incident at around 0930 BST.

Powys council said the school was co-operating with the police.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the teacher did not require hospital treatment.

A force spokeswoman said: "At approximately 9:30am this morning, a report was received that a member of staff had been injured in Maesydderwen Comprehensive school in Ystradgynlais, following an incident with a pellet gun.

"Officers attended and established that the member of staff had sustained a very minor facial injury. Inquiries were immediately commenced, and a 13-year-old boy has been detained and is currently in custody."

Powys council said "members of staff dealt with the incident efficiently and the school remains unaffected".
