Shop owner sprayed in robbery attempt in Welshpool

Detectives are hunting three men who used a spray to try to incapacitate a shop owner in an attempted robbery at a jewellers in Powys.

The incident happened at County Jewellers in Church Street, Welshpool on Wednesday evening.

They used a spray on the owner, but he managed to fight them off and they left empty-handed.

Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for witnesses and they ask people with information to contact them on 101.

The men were dressed in dark clothing and wore hoods or scarves and sunglasses.

After leaving the jewellers they are believed to have made their escape in a silver-coloured car parked in nearby Cumberland Place.

Det Insp Ian Andrews of Newtown CID said: "Not long before the offence a lady customer was in the shop and purchased two rings.

"The police would like that lady to come forward in case she saw any persons loitering near the premises."
