Swimmer rescued after problems in sea off Cwmtydu

A 21-year-old swimmer has been rescued off the Ceredigion coast after getting into difficulties.

The man had been with a party of walkers in Cwmtydu, near New Quay, when he decided to enter the water.

But he got into difficulties in heavy seas on Thursday and his companions called the coastguard.

He was rescued by the RNLI before being winched aboard an RAF rescue helicopter in New Quay harbour and flown to hospital in Aberystwyth.

He was airlifted to hospital as a precaution, said the coastguard service.
