April's funeral

The funeral of the murdered five-year-old April Jones is taking place in her hometown of Machynlleth later.

The small market town will join April's family in paying their last respects to the little girl who went missing from her home nearly a year ago.

Donations made at the funeral will be used to sponsor a five-year-old girl in Africa, the local vicar has said.

April was snatched and killed by 47-year-old Mark Bridger, who is serving a whole life tariff for her murder.

April went missing in Machynlleth, Powys, on 1 October last year and her body has never been found.

Her coffin will be carried on a horse-drawn carriage to St Peter's Church in the town

They are hoping that an inquest hearing on Monday will allow them to carry out a burial of tiny remains found in the house of her killer, Mark Bridger.

The five-year-old went missing from Machynlleth, Powys, on 1 October last year and her body has never been found.

Plans for the funeral later this month will see the coffin carried on a horse-drawn carriage to the local church.

April's parents Coral and Paul are expected to attend the opening of their daughter's inquest in Welshpool on Monday.

April was abducted by Bridger while playing near her home in Machynlleth sparking the biggest missing person search in UK police history.

Hundreds of local people and others from around the UK arrived in the town to join the search in the days following her disappearance.

Meanwhile, dozens of pink ribbons, said to have been April's favourite colour, appeared in Machynlleth as the search continued.

April's Fund was also set up in her memory and so far it has raised more than £73,000.

Bridger, from Ceinws, near Machynlleth, only the 37th person to be given a whole-life tariff, stuck steadfastly to his story about not remembering where he put April's remains.

He was given a whole-life tariff by a judge at Mold Crown Court in May for her murder and abduction.The parents of murdered April Jones are planning a funeral for their daughter, nearly a year after she was killed.
