Man sentenced after spraying Powys officer with petrol
A Powys man who sprayed petrol at a police officer and brandished a lighter has been given a 12-month community order.
Ian McColm, from Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant, also had a penknife, scissors and two large metal balls.
At Mold Crown Court he admitted affray and cannabis possession in the incident from February 2014.
Judge David Hale said the defendant had been seriously mentally ill at the time and had since received treatment.
Deciding not to imprison McColm, Judge Hale said he would have to "trust" him not to do anything more serious again, adding: "If you had lit the lighter, then you would have to be locked up for the protection of the public."
