Mural by R.S. Thomas' wife on display in Wrexham
A mural by the wife of poet R.S. Thomas is to go on display in Wrexham.
Mildred Eldridge's Dance of Life mural was housed in the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic and District Hospital in Gobowen, Shropshire, until the hospital was refurbished in 2005.
It has been stored in a warehouse ever since, but will now be displayed at Glyndŵr University's Oriel Sycharth Gallery.
The exhibition will be opened by the late couple's son, Gwydion Thomas.
The mural was commissioned by the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic and District Hospital in 1951 for the dining room of the new nurses' home.
The artist started work on it in 1952, finishing four years later.
Consisting of six oil-on-canvas panels - each 1.6m (5.2ft) high - it covers an area of 46 sq m (495 sq ft).
It tells the story of man's troubled relationship with nature.
Mildred Elsie Eldridge studied at the Royal College of Art in London.
She later taught art in Oswestry, Shropshire, where she met and married R.S. Thomas, who was once curate of Chirk parish church.
The artist died in 1991, followed by her husband nine years later in 2000.
The mural will be on display until February 2011. It will be moved to the university's Creative Industries Building in March, where it will remain permanently.
