Detectives hoping to enter a disused social club to investigate the cause of a suspicious fire have been told the building is still not safe to enter.

Fire and police investigators now hope to get inside the Shotton Lane Social Club in Shotton, Flintshire, on Thursday.

Some ruins have been examined, but a detailed inquiry cannot start until workers have cleared a way in.

The fire, on Friday, 4 February, is being treated as suspicious.

Police have said they are keeping an open mind and have not been drawn on possible motives.

They want to hear from anyone who left their car on the club car park in the hours leading up to the fire.

Flintshire Muslim Cultural Society had an offer accepted to buy the property and was planning to turn into a multi-cultural centre.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call North Wales Police on 101, if in Wales, or 0845 6071001 (Welsh line), or 0845 6071002 (English).
