Man arrested over £53,000 theft from Flintshire council

Detectives investigating the alleged theft of £53,000 from Flintshire council have arrested a man on suspicion of fraud.

North Wales Police confirmed a Buckley man, 41, was arrested and bailed.

Councillors meeting on Wednesday will be told "internal audit are assisting with the gathering of evidence".

The matter was referred to council officials in October, but no details have been disclosed about which department is involved.

A report to a meeting of the council's audit committee on Wednesday says: "An allegation has been made of the theft of monies.

"The matter has been referred directly to the police and internal audit are assisting with the gathering of evidence."

A council spokesman said: "The incident relating to the alleged theft of £53,000 is now a matter for North Wales Police."

The force said the man had been released on police bail while inquiries continue.
