Police appeal after latest Wrexham car fire

Police have branded an arsonist who set fire to a car on the driveway of a house in Wrexham as "totally mindless".

The owner and neighbours managed to stop the fire from spreading to nearby homes in Fenwick Drive, police added.

The Ford vehicle was destroyed in the fire on Friday at 23:00 BST and North Wales Police have appealed for witnesses.

Last month it emerged over 40 deliberate car fires have been started so far this year in north Wales.

And more than half have been in Wrexham, eight in a single week.

After the latest incident, Det Insp Simon Williams said: "The vehicle was parked on a driveway close to the house and it was only by good fortune and the prompt action of the owner and neighbours that the fire did not spread otherwise the consequences could have been far worse."

North Wales Police said anyone with information should call 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
