Seven sheep savaged to death in Llandyrnog field attack

Police have launched an inquiry after five ewes and two lambs were killed on a Denbighshire farm.

North Wales Police said they were found dead in a field near Llandyrnog, Denbigh, overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

The force said the farmer who owned the sheep believed his animals were savaged by a large dog.

Officers are appealing for people with information about the incident to contact them on 101.

PC Dan Wilyman of North Wales Police said: "The farmer believes that the sheep were killed by a large dog which could have been with people who were out hunting rabbits.

"Nobody had been given permission to hunt or work dogs on this land by the farmer so we are calling on anyone who might have been in the area and noticed anything suspicious to please get in touch.

"We have carried out house-to-house inquires in the area and neighbours have seen beams of light across the fields that night but no vehicles or persons were seen."

PC Wilyman urged people to take care with their dogs in the countryside.
