Tributes paid after BBC Wales journalist Glyn Evans dies

Tributes have been paid to the former BBC journalist and former editor of Welsh language weekly paper Y Cymro, Glyn Evans, who has died.

Mr Evans, 70, lived in Prestatyn but was originally from Anglesey,

BBC Wales' head of Welsh language programmes Sian Gwynedd said he was a "brilliant journalist".

"He had this natural curiosity and an innate ability to tell a story while understanding perfectly what would appeal to his readers," she said.

"His contribution to Y Cymro was absolutely essential at that time, and after that, his contribution to BBC Cymru as well.

"He was a bold author and reviewer who had a playful sense of humour. Glyn was also a kind and humble man and our thoughts are with his family."

Former head of news at BBC Wales, Gwilym Owen, added: "He was a perfectionist when it came to Welsh language journalism."

"He was an excellent journalist and an excellent writer."

Mr Evans used to work for BBC's Welsh language online services and was also currently the editor of a magazine for Welsh people living abroad called Yr Enfys.

He also worked for the Herald Cymraeg.

He leaves a son and two daughters.
