Missing teenager search on Anglesey abandoned

There has been no sign of Joe Hughes since early on Tuesday

North Wales Police have called off the search for an Anglesey teenager missing from Menai Bridge.

A major air, sea and land search found no sign of Joe Hughes, 19, from Dwyran, who was last seen near the Shell Garage at 0030 GMT on Tuesday.

Cries were reported coming from the water at around 0300 GMT.

"There is very little they can do at this stage but if any more information becomes available then they may reopen the search," said a spokesperson.

Police said they were contacted after a resident living next to the Menai Straits heard cries from the water. Friends of the missing man had also become concerned for him.

The missing teenager is described as of "slim build, black hair, with lots of freckles on his face and wearing a black and white shirt and grey jeans".
