Welsh language activist Geraint Jones jailed

A Welsh language activist has been imprisoned for 10 days after refusing to pay for a TV licence.

Geraint Jones, 69, was sent to jail by Dolgellau magistrates for the non-payment of a fine of £330.

The campaigner, from Trefor near Caernarfon, Gwynedd, refused to pay for the licence over what he claimed was the anglicisation of BBC Radio Cymru.

TV Licensing said in a statement: "Anyone who does not buy a licence when they need one risks prosecution."
