The son of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty has appeared in court accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

David Doherty, 27, of Queensferry, Flintshire, was charged after the death of James Loveridge in a crash on the A55 near Bangor, Gwynedd.

He is also accused of failing to stop, report the crash, being uninsured and taking a Land Rover without consent.

He was remanded in custody at Caernarfon magistrates' court.

The court was told the incident happened on Sunday between 03:30 and 04:00 GMT.

David Doherty is accused of crashing a Mitsubishi Shogun into a Renault van parked in a lay-by at Abergwyngregyn.

Mr Loveridge, 38, died at the scene and the van driver was left in a critical condition.

Three other people travelling in the Shogun were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

David Doherty's solicitor applied for bail and told the court: "His father, Patrick Doherty, has offered £20,000 and he can also put up the deeds on three properties, worth £500,000."

David Doherty's father has appeared in the Channel 4 programme My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and he won Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 last year.

Bail was denied and David Doherty, who was on crutches, will appear at Caernarfon Crown Court on April 2.
