Tanker woman in hospital airlift after taken ill off Anglesey

A senior officer has been airlifted to hospital after being taken ill while on board a gas tanker off Anglesey.

Holyhead RNLI lifeboat responded to the call from the Norwegian-registered vessel, the Nancy Knutson, four miles north of the port, at about 07:00 BST on Thursday.

Two RNLI crew boarded the tanker to give first aid to the female officer.

Then a rescue helicopter from nearby RAF Valley was called to airlift the woman to hospital at Bangor.

It is understood the 33-year-old was first taken ill during the night further south in St George's Channel before her condition deteriorated.

The tanker is on its way to the gas field in the North Sea.
